THE MAKING OF AN ARTIST - JUSTIN'S CHILDHOOD
A few readers who've commented on this story have said it's actually three fics in one the way it was written about three different time frames in Justin's life. That made me think of separating each part into a one-shot.
*This one covers his childhood, starting in kindergarten and ending at age 17 with the first ep. of the show.*

Whatever happened to that fic you were reading???

I'm sure most of you don't even remember the fic I was in the middle of writing two years ago. I can't believe it's been that long since the last chapter was posted, but the story was never far from my head and I tried to work on it as much as I could between bouts of overwhelming things happening in my life.
Not all of them were sad (my dad's death) or hard to cope with (being my disabled husband's caregiver, sharing responsibility with my sister for taking care of our aging mother, who decided to stop eating for some reason and compounded her dementia issues). Some of them were joyous (the birth of my first grandson) and loud and hectic (my son and his wife and their two dogs moving in with me a month before the birth to save up money to buy a house). Some of them were happy and precious (being a hands-on grandma) and time consuming (babysitting while my son and his wife worked, which I still do when they need me even though they bought their own house and moved out of mine). Some of them were unbelievably thrilling and involved packing up and traveling to four different cities throughout the year that started last January 28th (seeing eleven performances of Randy in Cabaret - yes, I'm obsessed).
But, and this is a very huge but, through all of that I have somehow managed to finish The Making of an Artist. Even if it did take two years. And now you know why.
I'll be posting CHAPTER TEN and the EPILOGUE in about an hour. If anyone wants to reread/scan through/brush up on/try to remember what the hell the story was about, here's a link to the Prologue. Each successive chapter is linked to at the end of the previous one.
THE MAKING OF AN ARTIST - PROLOGUE
I know it's frustrating to start a fic and have it disappear, and I sincerely apologize for doing that to anyone who was reading and was left stranded on the cliff.
But maybe you'll like the way things come full circle and get wrapped up. ♥

Thank You's and sad news
I just wanted to thank everyone for your lovely birthday wishes on September 3rd. I know I haven't been here on LJ very often recently, so I was truly surprised to see all the beautiful birthday posts and the many PM's, V gifts, emails, and ecards. My presence has been so scarce I wouldn't have blamed my f-list if you'd forgotten all about me.
Serious health issues have plagued both my aging parents and my disabled husband for most of the past year, leaving me little time to get online at night. Dealing with everything from my elderly mother being diagnosed with anorexia nervosa to my husband's end-stage chronic kidney disease and being put on dialysis three times a week has been overwhelming. A few of you know that my dad passed away two days before my birthday, on September 1, so needless to say, my family and I have been having a rough couple of weeks. Finding out that so many of you had remembered me was a ray of light at a terribly dark time, as well as physical gifts that came in the mail and personal phone texts, and I want to thank you for that.
I still love QAF and Brian and Justin passionately, and the multiple times I've seen Randy in Cabaret since it opened last January have been the highlight of my existence. So just a word of advice: Don't count me out yet!
